Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happyJohn Denver's somewhat sappy song makes sense at times. I grew up listening to my mom's John Denver album and always paused to soak in this song. It wasn't so much that the lyrics had meaning to me, but the Taize nature of the song pacified me for the moment.
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high. - John Denver
If you know me, you know I am not a big fan of standing out in the sun. I actually hate just standing or sitting in the sun. It is hot and it makes me cranky. With that said, there are times though I appreciate turning my face to the source of all organic energy on earth and relishing in its warmth.
It is amazing how a little sunshine can turn your day around.
ReplyDeleteThe song and the truck seem to be of the same vintage. I was never a big John Denver fan, he was a favorite of the wife though. In the early to mid-seventies I would have been listening to the likes of Johnny Winter, the Allman Brothers, Led Zepplin or Bob Seeger.
Pick-ups and pretty girls; you can't go wrong.
She makes a beautiful and radiant solar panel that gives off a good erotic charge. I ran some Seeger through the gray matter as I looked at your image getting the 70's vibe. While she she doesn't have black hair, as Bob sings, and that's not a sixty chevy for her to get into the back seat of: she does have "..points all her own sitting way up high. Way up firm and high."

D.L. - Thank you for noticing the truck. My dad bought it new when I as 1. I am a '69 model, and it is a '70. It has been a labor of love getting it going again. By the end of the 70's and into the 80's I was starting to notice women and that truck was part of that exploration. It and I have shared some of those journeys that your Seeger quote alludes to. Now I have to hunt down that Seeger song. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
DeleteThe song is Night Moves from the album of the same name. Not a bad track on it in my opinion.

I listened to it last night. You are right! Thanks for sharing it.
DeleteKarl, I am just learning about the unnoticed powers of the sun in our lives. Now that the weather is colder here and I can't keep my pool room windows open, I crave the sunlight. When its rays light up the pool room it not only lights my spirits - it keeps the dreaded condensation and fog away from my glass house windows.
ReplyDeleteYesterday we had rain all day - I mean ALL DAY - sunlight shrouded behind clouds. It was a disaster. My dehumidifier pooped out and spit the water back at me. Even through layers of glass, the sunlight works wonders in keeping our lives and spirits up and our homes sanitized, warm, and dry.
It truly is the simple things in life that matter.
